NATIONAL SUPPORTING PARTNER OF THE CAMPAIGN
SYNERGI - A better use of energy in Denmark
SYNERGI is an interest organization that works towards a smarter and more efficient use of energy in Denmark.
Fueled by a belief that the key to the green transition is to nurture the synergies that lie between energy efficiency, renewables, and electrification, we work to firmly establish energy efficiency on the Danish political agenda.
We were founded in 2018 by four of the most innovative Danish companies within energy efficient solutions: Danfoss, Grundfos, ROCKWOOL, and VELUX. Since then, we are lucky to have been joined by a number of other ambitious players within the energy sector – have a look at our members’ list.

Denmark and the European construction industry can end the energy crisis permanently
6 leading companies in the Danish construction market highlight in a co-signed op-ed the key role the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) to cut the dependence of homes and buildings in Europe on imports of fossil fuels.
The renovation of F/G level public buildings to B/C will signify a decrease in final energy consumption by 90%.
Meanwhile, each billion invested to energy efficiency can create 18,000 jobs.
The op-ed was published on February 8th at FINANS.
Renovate2Recover Study Coverage in Danish Media (Børsen)
On the 4th of November 2021, the Danish newspaper Børsen published two articles referencing the Renovate2Recover Study, commissioned by the Renovate Europe Campaign and prepared by E3G with help from 18 of REC’s National Partners.
The articles feature opinions from Danfoss, a REC EU Contributing Partners and member of our Danish National Partner SYNERGI.

2021 - Renovate2Recover: How Transformational are the National Recovery Plans for Buildings Renovation?
National Recovery and Resilience Plans (NRRPs) present a unique opportunity to accelerate the delivery of deep renovation across the EU. The analysis of the NRRPs in this Study demonstrates that significant renovation activity is planned and will be made possible through the successive disbursements of the Recovery Funding. But these renovations must be done properly, and the money must be spent well. This unprecedented additional injection of public funds must set the EU building stock firmly on the path to achieving its Renovation Wave goals to 2030 and meeting the 2050 climate targets.
For NRRPs to be transformational towards achieving these goals, two key aspects need to be strengthened:
- Ensure funding delivers a step change towards realising deep (or staged deep) renovations, going well beyond the 30% minimum energy saving recommendation set by the European Commission.
- Invest in the right enabling framework, including leverage of private finance, to create sustainable renovation markets that will grow beyond 2026.
Danish profile from the study commissioned by the Renovate Europe Campaign and conducted by E3G with input from SYNERGI.

An industry-driven one-stop-shop solution, this private initiative, which established a new business model, has proven to be highly effective in motivating private homeowners to take the decision to undertake energy renovation works to their homes
Recognising that many non-technical barriers were negatively affecting the motivation of homeowners in Denmark from taking the decision to renovate, several private companies pooled their resources and set up a unique offer in the Danish market. In essence, the BetterHome Team acts as a facilitator for the establishment of a better working relationship between the actors directly involved in a renovation project. The owner meets one certified installer who becomes the single point of contact for the whole process and who accompanies the homeowner throughout the renovation and who follows-up afterwards.
For the installers, BetterHome clusters suitable projects and offers training, guidance and support to them so that they improve their knowledge and skills over time. BetterHome has also developed a digital platform for the installers that allows them and their clients to follow all of the steps in the process of the energy renovation in a highly interactive and visual manner.
A further crucial feature of the BetterHome model is the way in which it is financed. The companies behind the initiative directly fund the BetterHome Initiative without any requirement that the products they manufacture are used in the works. They recover the investment through a general increase in demand for their products as renovation activity increases.
All parties in the BetterHome Programme express satisfaction with the process and the conversion rate of enquiries handled by the programme into real contracts on real homes is much higher than one would expect, running at about 35%
Principle Characteristics of the Incentive Programme:

Cost of the works: | Average investment per house is around €70,000 – Around €13m was invested in renovation works in 2016 |
