National partner
Ekubirojs (ESEB) is a social design NGO committed to working with citizens to take back their cities as they transition to a healthier, low-carbon and circular economy.
Established in 2012, ESEB promotes energy efficiency and green investment in the Baltics and eastern Europe, leveraging the tremendous energy saving opportunities in Soviet-era buildings. Since then it has worked with the public and private sectors and with citizens, gaining experience of the different perspectives communities may have.
It cooperates with stakeholders from all sectors to spot opportunities and design new products and services that meet the complex challenges of 21st-century cities.
The national recovery plan
Renovate2Recover country profile (2021)
In 2021 we looked at how each national recovery plan funded building renovation. The Renovate2Recover study found significant renovation activity planned, and called for two things: funding that delivers deep (or staged deep) renovations, going well beyond the 30% minimum energy saving recommended by the European Commission, and an enabling framework, including private finance, so that renovation markets keep growing after the recovery funding ends in 2026.
The Latvian profile comes from the study commissioned by the Renovate Europe Campaign and carried out by E3G, with input from Ekubirojs.
