Renovate Europe Day 2020 looked at the place of building renovation in the national recovery plans. This extract shows how Ireland is prioritising energy renovation in its plan:
The IGBC also organised an online event, The Renovation Wave: Exploring links between EU Aims and Ireland’s National Actions.
Programme
As many as 1.5 million Irish homes are considered energy inefficient and require upgrade work between now and 2050. Retrofitting our homes and businesses is not only critical to reach our climate targets; it can also improve our health and wellbeing, reduce fuel poverty and create sustainable construction jobs across the country.
As the Programme for Government commits to retrofitting 500,000 homes to a BER rating of B2 by 2030, and as the EU was about to launch its Renovation Wave initiative, the conference explored what is needed to deliver the renovation wave in Ireland.
- Introduction: Pat Barry, CEO, Irish Green Building Council, and Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Climate Action, Communication Networks and Transport
- Intervention, “Scaling up energy renovation in Ireland”: Adrian Joyce, Campaign Director, Renovate Europe
- Panel discussion, how to boost the Renovation Wave? Deep retrofitting Irish homes; retrofitting our social housing building stock; project aggregation and the importance of high-quality data (Xavier Dubuisson, Retrokit); the role of building renovation passports (IGBC)
